The day after a festival. It’s been a while, but today, after two almost festival-free years, it’s time: the day after Paaspop. And that means that the traditional Paaspop traffic control is back. Festival-goers will be led along the A50 to the De Poort van Veghel business park on Monday morning. There, caravans, cars and luggage of festival-goers are subjected to a check.
Festival-goers also have to take a test whether they are not behind the wheel with too many intoxicants in their body. The police were already there at eight o’clock on Monday morning. They were positively surprised. “No one has drunk too much. Everyone is blowing negative,” said Jeroen Groothuis of Team Traffic at the East Brabant police after an hour of control. “And the number of wrecks is not too bad,” he laughs.
The police eventually handed out four fines for driving under the influence until about 2 p.m. Monday afternoon. Eight motorists received a ticket because, for example, the brakes or the lighting of their car were not in order and in one case the caravan was too heavy. The police also requisitioned the driver’s license of one driver because he drove more than 50 kilometers too fast.
