After his spectacular farewell concert, Ozzy Osbourne reported back with an equally spectacular surprise. He cooperates with chimpanzees in the creation of abstract expressionist works of art – and for a good cause.
The unusual collaboration: man meets animal
After decades on stage, Osbourne is now discovering the calm of painting. But this time he shares the brush with special artists: saved chimpanzees from the US animal welfare project “Save the Chimps” in Florida. The campaign not only serves the creative expression, but also the rescue and protection of our next animal relatives.
Ozzy started the project by performing colorful primers on five screens. After that, the chimpanzees were allowed to become creative and play with colors – the result: paintings in the style of abstract expressionism.
These works are now being auctioned-from a starting requirement of £ 1,000 per painting-to collect donations for the chimpanzee refuge. The rocker himself says:
“Painting gives me inner peace. Usually I don’t sell my works – but for this purpose I make an exception.”
His wife Sharon is also enthusiastic:
“Chimpanzees are our closest relatives in the animal kingdom. I am proud that Ozzy will help them in this way.”
Art as therapy and life’s work
For Ozzy Osbourne, art means not only creative activity, but also healing. After years of severe health setbacks-including a Parkinson’s diagnosis, spinal operations, pneumonia and infections-he found a new sense with art.
His farewell concert “Back to the Beginning” on July 5, 2025 was a highlight: first solo, then with a reunion of Black Sabbath. The evening was supported by UA Metallica, Guns N ‘Roses, Slayer, Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) and Ronnie Wood (Rolling Stones).
“I was tied to bed for six years – standing on this damn stage means everything to me,” Ozzy called to the audience while sitting on a throne with bat decoration.
The meaning of “Save the Chimps”
The organization “Save the Chimps” houses animals that were saved from test laboratories, illegal animal trade structures and poorly guided zoos. The income from the art auction directly benefits care, supply and species -appropriate accommodation of these chimpanzees.
