It is well known that one should be willing to compromise when working in a team – the two musicians Eric Clapton and Ozzy Osbourne are obviously not: The Black Sabbath singer is currently involved in a debate with Clapton, who, with a line alluding to Jesus in their joint song “One Of Those Days” disagreed.
One Of Those Days will appear on Osbourne’s new album Patient Number 9, the musician’s 13th solo album. Now, in an interview with Classic Rock, he revealed that the line “One of those days / That I don’t believe in Jesus” brought problems with the collaboration. He explained: “[Clapton] said, ‘Oh, I’m not sure about those lyrics’. We tried to replace it with some alternatives. We did ‘One of those days / Where I don’t believe in Christmas’ but it didn’t sound right. Losing faith in Jesus makes a lot more sense when the world is turning to crap.”
Osbourne himself is a Christian. He went on to say that the track isn’t an “anti-Christ song” but rather highlights a time when “everything’s going damn wrong and you’re freaking out trying to fix it.”
Two sober alcoholics arguing
Their collaboration on “One Of Those Days” is their first. Before that, however, they had a conflict when the singer mentioned Clapton on his radio show Ozzy Speaks, who was said to have been drunk at an awards ceremony and shortly after his alcohol therapy. As a result, the two musicians were not on good terms with each other. Despite the incident, Osbourne said Clapton was “a nice guy.” Osbourne himself suffered from alcohol and drug addiction for years and described himself as “almost dead” in an interview with the “SZ”.
Although the altercation created a lot of tension between the two musicians, Osbourne thinks the entire album is “great”. His new record “Patient Number 9” is scheduled for release on September 9th. The album also features collaborations with Jeff Beck, Zakk Wylde and Tony Iommi.
