Live in Zurich: Arctic Monkeys present new song “I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I Am”

On Tuesday evening, the Arctic Monkeys performed at the start of the Zurich Open Air festival. During their set, they performed a new song called “I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I Am” for the first time. See fan footage of it here.

The still current album by Arctic Monkeys TRANQUILITY BASE & HOTEL CASINO was released in 2018. ME reviewer Albert Koch gave it five stars out of a possible six. He stated: “The greatest guitar band of their generation has subjected the guitars to voluntary self-regulation, written songs and arrangements that do not fit the indie rock mold, temporarily shelved the rock mannerisms. It’s quite a gamble, but one that’s not too big because, like the Stones, the band’s high level of recognition comes from their singer’s voice.”

A successor has not yet been officially announced, but drummer Matt Helders has already reported on its creation and the sound. He said, “I mean, it’s never gonna be like ‘RU Mine?’ and all that stuff again, you know, the heavy riffs and stuff. But there are riffs in there and [it’s] a bit more up-tempo, even though it’s not loud.”

Arctic Monkeys will be appearing at several other festivals this summer, including Rock En Seine in Paris, Reading and Leeds, and Los Angeles’ Primavera Sound offshoot. Germany dates are not yet known.
