The 24-year-old Rudy from Alkmaar has a new car thanks to a crowdfunding campaign. Two weeks ago, his previous car, a Golf GTI, was used by the perpetrators of the Art Reaf in the Drents Museum in Assen as a flight car and set on fire. Because he was not insured for theft, his uncle started a collection campaign.
Rudy’s car was stolen in Alkmaar in the night of Thursday, January 23 and found completely burned out two days later under a viaduct near Rolde. The car was used in the art robbery, in which Romanian masterpieces were captured.
To his astonishment, Rudy learned via Facebook that his car was involved in the art. “Someone from Drenthe happened to drove past the place where the car was set on fire. He sent me a movie because I had given up my car as stolen on Facebook. I immediately saw on the rims that I had just put on it that it was mine. “
Rudy received an email from the police that his stolen golf was justified. “That was everything,” he says. “Coincidentally, I still called the police yesterday, but then it was only said that I forgot to sign my report. I said I am still sitting with many questions and I would like to come by, but that was not possible. Very special.”
He does not know the three suspects from Heerhugowaard who were arrested four days after the robbery and are still stuck. “You would think that there is a major criminal organization behind this, but that doesn’t seem to be. Now that I know it is Heerhugowaarders, I think it is a lot more logical that they have taken my car.”
Unlike the old car, it is insured against theft. “As a 24-year-old I am no longer in the risk group, so that is a lot cheaper,” he explains. “He drives very well and I am very happy with it. Bizarre how many people have donated, I am really grateful for that.”
