For the first time since the end of August, more than a thousand people with or because of an infection with the corona virus are in Belgian hospitals. This is evident from the latest figures from health agency Sciensano.
This concerns 1,080 patients, or an increase of 46 percent compared to a week earlier. Of those patients, 50 . have intensive care required. That is a decrease of 2 percent.
The number of registered infections with Covid-19 also rises further. There were an average of 2,471 daily between September 20 and 26, an increase of 27 percent over the previous seven days.
The positivity ratio amounts to 20.25 percent. That means that about one test in five indicates an infection.
Last week, Sciensano said scientific models indicate a new wave of Covid-19 could be expected by mid-October.
