Sebastian Marino, guitarist for Overkill and Anvil, has died aged 57. Anvil vocalist and guitarist Steve “Lips” Kudlow confirmed this in a message on Twitter:

“Condolences to the family and friends of my friend Sebastian Marino. Seby was a dear friend and I will miss him dearly!! Worth the Weight was a very special Anvil album and it will forever keep Seby alive in our story! RIP SEBASTIAN MARINO.”

In a joint message, Overkill later reacted: “It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of our good friend and great musician Sebastian Marino. Seb was an asset both in the studio and on stage for the 3 releases he did with us. The music world has lost one of its good guys.”

According to reports from Bruce Pilato, one of Marino’s associates, the musician “suddenly” passed away after being hospitalized on December 31 while working at a recording engineer job in Florida. The exact cause of death is not yet known.

Marino was a member of Canadian metal band Anvil between 1989 and 1995 and featured on their 1991 album Worth The Weight. He then joined New Jersey-formed thrash group Overkill in 1995 and stayed with them until 1999.
