Our Lady Visiting Church in Lissewege

Charlotte goes in search of the story behind the organ in the Our Lady Visiting Church in Lissewege

The church was a stop on the way to Compostela in Spain for the pilgrims from Scandinavia and the Baltic States. Lissewege has long been a place of pilgrimage. The village of which stories have been circulating for centuries that the Templars had underground passages. With a church in which a number is hidden and a lot of symbolism that we no longer think about.

The organ has been around since 1652 and has seen many restorations, the last of which was financed in 1994 by American Senator Vanden Heuvel. He did this because his grandparents were from Lissewege and are buried in the cemetery next to the church. The senator also visited once… and Francky the organ player played the organ for him!

The church has been around since the 13th century and has a beautiful tower with a phenomenal view of the region, that you can visit during the summer
