‘Our ancestors’ makes it clear that history is not behind us, but is still working in the present. Archaeological finds, historical reconstructions and conversations with experts bring our past to life.

The compilation follows a number of themes that run through time like red threads: struggle, water, religion, trade and living. The traces of these topics can still be found clearly in the present. By knowing the stories that are related to it, our province and its design can be better understood and appreciated.

“The history of Noord-Holland is a story of people, struggle, water, faith, trade, freedom and loss. The traces of our ancestors are still visible in the landscape and in ourselves,” summarizes program maker Robbert Bianchi.

He directed the series on behalf of NH and the province of Noord-Holland. A special journey of discovery, which he made with the cooperation of various historians and archaeologists from, among others, Archeology Museum Huis van Hilde, Museum Kaap Skil and the Noord-Hollands Archief.
