Otte reaches quarterfinals in Munich

Munich (AP) – Tennis professional Oscar Otte was the only German to reach the quarterfinals of the tournament in Munich.

The 28-year-old from Cologne prevailed against the favored American Reilly Opelka 7: 6 (7: 4) and 6: 2 and now meets either the French Hugo Gaston or Alejandro Tabilo from Chile. Both are behind the German in the world rankings.

Olympic champion Alexander Zverev surprisingly lost his round of 16 the day before. The Norwegian Casper Ruud is now the top favorite for the title of the event, which is worth around 530,000 euros. The number two on the seeding list narrowly prevailed against the Slovakian Alex Molcan with 3: 6, 6: 4 and 6: 4. 23-year-old Ruud now meets Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp in the last eight.
