Pieter Mulier comes from the French fashion house Alaïa, where he was artistic director for five years and announced his departure last week. Mulier was also the right-hand man of designer Raf Simons for many years, who currently works at Prada, owner of Versace.

Versace is looking for new impetus after its takeover by Prada last year. With Mulier, the brand is betting on a designer who succeeded in breathing new life into the niche brand Alaïa of the Swiss group Richemont. He scored with, among other things, ‘Le Teckel’, an elongated handbag with a price tag from 1,950 euros.

Mulier succeeds Dario Vitale at Versace, who left in December after nine months.
