Lusatians climb to second place

VfL Osnabrück still has to wait a bit for its return to the 2nd league. Because Energie Cottbus won its away game at Viktoria Köln 2-0 (1-0), the promotion of the purple-whites is not yet perfect three game days before the end of the season. Cottbus also remains a hot candidate for promotion. A week after the furious home win against Rot-Weiss Essen, coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz’s team jumped to second place in the 3rd league. In front of 4,536 spectators, Erik Engelhardt gave the Lausitz team the lead in the 18th minute. King Manu made it 2-0 (75th).
As league leaders with a seven point lead over Cottbus, Osnabrück still has it in its own hands to complete promotion next Sunday with a win at SV Wehen Wiesbaden. On Saturday, Osnabrück won 2-1 against Verl with a last-minute goal and thus took the next big step towards promotion.
Osnabrück’s coach Timo Schultz had already assumed that VfL would not be promoted in front of the television. “Cottbus is in a good mood. They have a strong team and a good coach. They will pull it off,” said the former St. Pauli coach after the 2-1 win against Verl.
