Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis: “It needs more fucking women and inclusion everywhere!”

Jamie Lee Curtis, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in Everything Everywhere All at Once on the night of March 12, now wants to use her award to draw attention to something: trans identity and sexual empowerment and inclusion.

After her victory, the 64-year-old called for more gender parity in the Oscar industry in the Oscars press round after the ceremony, so that more inclusive nominations are possible in the future. “I fear that desegregation will reduce opportunities for more women. But the most important thing is inclusion and more women… basically just more damn women, anywhere, anytime, all at once.”

Curtis’ Oscar award is nonbinary

Curtis appeared in various US programs after her Oscar win. On “Today,” for example, she was asked by presenter Savannah Guthrie if she “gave a name” to her Oscar statuette. The actress responded, “I support my daughter Ruby. I let you [die Oscar-Figur] be a they/them.”

Curtis’ daughter Ruby had told her a few years ago that she no longer clearly identified herself as male or female. Instead, the daughter would prefer to use the pronouns “they/them” – both. She thus came out as transgender to her family in 2020.

More inclusive expression: “It’s like learning a new language. Mistakes are allowed!”

The Oscar winner also spoke to People magazine in 2021 about how she’s been supportive of Ruby and getting used to using the pronouns “they/them.” There Curtis also talked about her experience of learning a new language: “You learn new terminology and new words. This is new to me – because I’m not someone who pretends to know everything about it already. And I’m sure I’ll screw up more often, make mistakes. But I would like to try to avoid making big mistakes.” In the process of learning an inclusive language, one would also learn to speak more slowly, to be more attentive to what one is saying. Of course, mistakes can always be made, because: “We are all human.”
