In a clip released on Thursday of the program, Packer says that the agents talked to Chris Rock, who was beaten by Smith on the stage of the Oscar ceremony. They informed Rock that if he wanted to press charges, they would arrest Smith right away. However, according to Packer, the comedian did not want to hear about it.

The producer was on that call and says he urged Rock to at least let the police explain his options to him. “Then the officers asked, ‘Do you want us to take action?’ and he said, ‘No’.”

Packer, who was hired by Oscar organization the Academy to produce the award show, says that he himself did not speak with Smith on Sunday evening. The Academy announced on Wednesday that the organization has initiated disciplinary proceedings over the incident. Smith faces suspension or even expulsion from the prestigious organization.
