A deep bond

Water is essential for the life of all living forms, including vegetation. “From aquatic to totally dry ecosystems, every plant has a special relationship with water,” he said Mario Mariani from the nursery Central Parkexpert in botany in Company of Thinkers of Orticolario. «The event will dive into the depth of this bond, passing from water lilies to cacti and showcasing the different habitats in which plants live.”

Water is the protagonist in man-made gardens, contributing to the aesthetic narrative through fountains and games, and shapes the natural landscape, marked by the presence of rivers, lakes and foaming waves. We are made of water and the water landscape can only stimulate our inner awareness: it is the journey that this edition of Orticolario invites the visitor to undertake, through a plurality of stimuli and proposals.

Aquatic environments and dry gardens

Sustainability it is a term that has now entered our everyday life. Orticolario 2023 also focuses on plants for a sustainable garden, which can be declined with hygrophilous vegetation if there is plenty of water. Or become a dry garden, a dry garden where plants with reduced water requirements and low maintenance thrive. To reflect and be amazed, we particularly suggest visiting two creations.

The first is the project “Tecnogoccia” by Tiziano Pedrazzoli, in the central pavilion, which underlines the importance of water and the need to avoid waste. The second instead tells us about a place where water abounds: “Tritoniade”, positioned in the Carp Pond and created by Water Nurserypresents a scenario in which they stand out water lilies, lotus flowers, colocasias, papyrus and other botanical rarities. Returns again this year “Creative Spaces” competition with its six finalists whose projects are linked by the common thread of the water landscape. A union between nature and artistic research, the finalist creations created by architects, designers, nurserymen, gardeners and artists will be exhibited in the park of Villa Erba and can be visited on the opening days of the exhibition.

The guest of honor

An important novelty of the 2023 edition is the choice of the guest of honor who this year is not a character strictly linked to the world of gardens and greenery. The “For advanced gardening” award 2023 was assigned to Antonio Marras. Stylist, designer, artist, always attentive to contaminations with cinema, art, dance, theater and nature, which inspire him to experiment with new expressive forms. Marras it also promotes environmental and social sustainability, creating works of art through fashion and collaborating with contemporary artists. A multifaceted vision that is also in Orticolario’s heart.
