Orange disappoints, but Ruben Nicolai? ‘It scores really badly!’

The viewing figures of the Dutch national team are lagging behind even for the eighth finals of the World Cup in Qatar, but who really scored badly yesterday? Ruben Nicolai with his show on RTL 4.

The viewing figures of the World Cup in the controversial Qatar have been seriously disappointing for weeks. The scores are so disappointing that the NPO sometimes misses out on tons per match. Yesterday, from four o’clock in the afternoon, the eighth final against the United States attracted an audience of 4.8 million viewers (88 percent market share) to NPO 1.

Historically low

It is of course a sky-high score, but much lower than in previous years, explains viewing figures expert Tina Nijkamp. “It’s not easy. It’s quite scary again. And that in the weekend on Saturday afternoon. It is unlikely and historically low.”

What then? “Never before has an eighth final of the Dutch national team scored under 5 million at a World Cup or European Championship. In 2010, the eighth final scored 6.1 million viewers and that was also at 4 p.m. Last year, the eighth final at the European Championship scored 5.7 million viewers at 6 p.m..”

Ruben fails

But the one who really disappoints is Ruben Nicolai. He drew on prime time last night, so not against the Orange, but against Argentina – Australia, which was watched by 2.6 million people (48 percent), very few viewers. His RTL 4 show The Big Show with Ruben Nicolai was good for 551 thousand viewers (10 percent).

Tina: “For Ruben Nicolai, his personality show is going dramatically: his Big Show has now halved in viewing figures. A second season suddenly seems highly uncertain and the program is heading for a flop.”

‘Wendy? Ai!’

Can it be worse? Yes, Wendy van Dijk had 321 thousand viewers (6 percent) with her show Liedje Op Het Eerste Vlieg. “Ah,” Tina remarks. Later in the evening, De Oranjewinter made a lot of good for SBS 6. No less than 924 thousand people (19 percent) watched it.

The most watched alternative to football in prime time was Sterren op het Doek with 990 thousand viewers (18 percent) on NPO 2. Later in the evening, Even Tot Hier attracted 1.8 million viewers (46 percent) to NPO 1 and VriendenLoterij Miljonairs 586 thousand viewers (12 percent) to RTL 4.
