OM wants former team chief H’meer three years behind bars for rape chief officer

A 53-year-old former team chief of the Haarlemmermeer police will disappear behind bars for three years as far as the public prosecutor is concerned for raping a female senior officer. That would have happened in her own car, after she had given her colleague a lift.

According to the Public Prosecution Service, the former team chief – the 53-year-old De CM from Almere – was driven to NS station Hoofddorp by the chief officer on the day in question in 2019. Once there, he kissed her against her will, and then drove her to a more remote place where he allegedly raped her.

Obsessive interest

According to the suspect, not he, but the senior officer, alluded to sex and he was not pleased with it. Yet there is sufficient evidence to show that he is guilty of ‘rape and fornication with abuse of authority’, states the OM.

Among that evidence is a statement from a counselor who states that the suspect had “an obsessive interest in the victim.” A screenshot of a Whatsapp conversation was also found in which the suspect makes sexual innuendo towards the chief officer.

Dismissed

Now a former chief agent, because the woman was fired after she shared her experiences with NRC, writes NOS. She let the newspaper read Whatsapp messages in which the former team chief proposed to have sex, thereby violating the duty of confidentiality, according to the Noord-Holland police.

Independent

To guarantee the independence of the investigation, the investigation was not conducted by the North Holland Police (where the suspect and the victim work), but by the Central Netherlands Police under the direction of the Central Netherlands Public Prosecution Service.

The woman says she took that step because she found no response within the police with her accusation. Nevertheless, the judge ruled in 2021 that she was rightly fired because she had ‘significantly damaged the image of the police by sharing confidential police information’.

The Public Prosecution Service charges the CM with the suspicions extra heavily because he committed them with a subordinate. The public prosecutor therefore demands three years in prison against the former team leader.
