Olympics 2022 | Silver winner angry: Inspectors damage Althaus’ medal box

Things are not going well for Katharina Althaus: After her controversial disqualification in mixed jumping, her departure from the Olympic Games has become a real odyssey. She was also unlucky with the medal.

Even after her departure from the Winter Games in Beijing, ski jumper Katharina Althaus is at loggerheads with inspectors.

The Olympic silver medalist, who was disqualified in the mixed competition because her suit was too big, got stuck at the security check during a stopover on her return journey.

Missed connecting flight, medal box smeared

As a result, the 25-year-old not only missed her connecting flight, but the security personnel were also particularly interested in Althaus’ silver medal.

In a photo that the Allgäu native shared on social media, the white “Beijing 2022” box in which the plaque was stowed appeared slightly battered and extensively smeared with blue paint.

30-hour return journey

“Somehow things are not going so well for me with the inspectors,” wrote Althaus, who was happy about a happy ending: After 30 hours of return travel, she arrived safely and with a medal back home.

She is happy to finally be at home with her loved ones, wrote the woman from the Allgäu.
