Olympics 2022 | Ice hockey: DEB team flies home on Thursday

The German national ice hockey team is expected back in Frankfurt on Thursday after the disappointing course at the Olympics.

The selection of national coach Toni Söderholm will depart from Beijing on Thursday afternoon (local time), according to the German Ice Hockey Federation.

After the bitter 0:4 against Slovakia, which meant that the minimum target quarter-finals was missed, the team spent the evening in their rooms and toasted goalkeeper Danny aus den Birken’s 37th birthday. According to the mood after the game, there was no party.

The team cabin in Beijing is to be cleared out today. Defender Korbinian Holzer’s 33rd birthday was also coming up. But no party was planned for that either, it said.

The German team, which had again given the medal ranks as a goal given the absence of the NHL players in Beijing, failed prematurely on Tuesday after three defeats in four games.

In 2018 Germany sensationally won silver in Pyeongchang under national coach Marco Sturm.
