“We are extremely shocked by what is going on at Erasmus MC. We hope that healthcare colleagues, patients and students will be safe soon and we deeply sympathize with everyone involved. Lots of strength from the OLVG,” the message reads.

Two shootings

Rotterdam was shocked today by two shootings, probably by the same perpetrator. The suspect, a 32-year-old man who was arrested this afternoon, first shot a 39-year-old woman dead in a home in the city and seriously injured her 14-year-old daughter.

From there he left for the Erasmus MC, where he shot dead a 46-year-old teacher. He also set a fire in the hospital.

Great panic then broke out in and around the Erasmus MC. In a live stream of regional broadcasting Rijnmond it could be seen how large parts of the hospital had to be evacuated, including doctors and their patients.

The police are still investigating the case and have announced that the suspect is cooperating.
