Olmo extends contract with Leipzig: Almost all top performers are tied until at least 2026

Two days before the cup final

Dani Olmo has extended his contract with RB Leipzig early. On Thursday, two days before the cup final against Eintracht Frankfurt, the Saxons announced the Spaniard’s signature until June 30, 2027. The working paper previously ran until the summer of 2024.

Leipzig is staying true to its tactic of equipping all top performers with long-term contracts at an early stage. If you exclude Konrad Laimer, whose free transfer departure this year is almost certain, the nine most valuable players in the squad are tied to the third-placed Bundesliga player until at least 2026.

“The talks with Dani, his family and his advisor were intense but open at all times. Dani knows how much he is valued here in Leipzig and knows our ambitious goals. So it’s all the nicer that we’ve managed to lay a big building block for the new season with the contract extension,” said RB Managing Director Max Eberl.

Olmo joined from Dinamo Zagreb for €29m in January 2020 and since then has made 122 appearances, scoring 21 goals and providing 28 assists. Since then there has been speculation about a return to youth club FC Barcelona, most recently a free transfer after the coming season was considered an option – this is now off the table. According to reports, Olmo secured a release clause of 60 million euros in his new contract. His salary is said to have been adjusted from 8 to 11 million euros.
