Olivia Rodrigo provides soundtrack for new “The Hunger Games” prequel

The song “Can’t Catch Me Now” is one of the 17 tracks on the soundtrack.

Olivia Rodrigo grew up with the “Hunger Games” films. When the first part was released, the singer was just nine years old. Now she provided the soundtrack to the new prequel “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” with the song “Can’t Catch Me Now”.

Just two months after Rodrigo released her second studio album GUTS, the ballad for the latest part of the successful film series is released. The track, which the 20-year-old wrote with producer Daniel Nigro, is one of the 17 songs on the soundtrack – including works sung by leading actress Rachel Zegler.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which hits theaters November 16, is set 64 years before the events of the first film, in which Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence) takes part in the ruthless Hunger Games. The prequel tells the story of the 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow – later known as the president of the totalitarian state. Snow, who is played by Tom Blyth in his younger years, acts as a mentor for the first time. Although he initially worries about his protégé Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), the female tribute from the impoverished District 12, they quickly develop an inseparable bond – one that depends on life and death.

Olivia Rodrigo’s debut album SOUR has already enjoyed enormous international success. Not only did the songwriter become the youngest solo artist to top both the album and singles charts in May 2021, she also became the first female solo artist to do so the following month with “Good 4 U,” “Déjà vu” and ” Traitor” achieved three top 5 singles in the UK simultaneously. Most recently, Rodrigo’s single “Vampire” stayed in the US charts for two weeks in July 2023.
