The current buildings in the Bloemenwijk no longer meet contemporary standards and are being demolished. After that, at the earliest in 2030, the city of Izegem and social housing company Thuiswest will have 90 new homes built. Thuiswest guides current residents to a new home, and anyone who wants to return after the construction works gets the first chance. A new community center will also replace De Barakke on the site.
