Official: Zlatan Ibrahimovic extends at Milan – oldest Serie A striker

Will be out for a longer time after surgery

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will play professional football for at least another year and the iconic Swedish striker will do so at AC Milan. The Rossoneri announced on Monday that they had extended the contract with the 40-year-old until 2023. However, it will still be a few months before the 121-time national player is ready for action.

Ibrahimovic recently underwent a scheduled knee operation that would require the anterior cruciate ligament to be restored and the meniscus repaired. The oldest player played in the last Serie A season is expected to be missing for five to six months. With his next appearance, he replaces Francesco Totti (2017, then aged 40 years and 8 months) as the oldest attacker to appear on the field in a Serie A game. In October, Ibra celebrates his 41st birthday.

Last season, Ibrahimovic was repeatedly absent due to injury. In 27 competitive games, he played 1,167 minutes for Milan, scoring eight goals and providing three assists.
