Kalidou Koulibaly’s move to Saudi Arabia is official. On Sunday evening, Chelsea confirmed the departure of the central defender after just one year. As expected, the 32-year-old Senegalese joins Al-Hilal SFC, who are reportedly paying 23 million euros.
Koulibaly only moved from SSC Napoli to London in the summer of 2022 for 38 million euros, but was unable to build on his performances in Italy there. Its market value fell from 35 million to 15 million – by another 10 million euros in the most recent update alone.

After Rúben Neves, Koulibaly is the second significant signing of the third-placed player last season. Al-Hilal paid Wolverhampton Wanderers €55m for the Portuguese. In the Blues, goalkeeper Edouard Mendy (31) and offensive all-rounder Hakim Ziyech (30) are likely to switch two more players to the Saudi Pro League, critics suspect financial doping (to the background).
