Official: Coach Marco Rose takes over for Tedesco at RB Leipzig

Before BVB duel

One day after the dismissal of the previous head coach Domenico Tedesco, RB Leipzig has clarity about his successor: As the “Red Bulls” announced, Marco Rose will take over with immediate effect. The 45-year-old received a contract until 2024. Previously, consistent media reports had announced that Rose would sign with the Saxons. According to the “Leipziger Volkszeitung”, RB Leipzig had Rose flown to the trade fair city by private jet on Wednesday. The day before, the coach had attended the Champions League duel between Red Bull Salzburg and AC Milan. Rose will bring along Alexander Zickler, Marco Kurth and Frank Geideck as assistants.

Rose’s first game on the Leipzig touchline will be next Saturday (3:30 p.m.) against his former club Borussia Dortmund. After that, Borussia Mönchengladbach is another former employer waiting for the former professional. Rose switched from RB Salzburg to the “Fohlen” in 2019, after two years he moved on to BVB at his own request. In the black and yellow he achieved an average of 1.85 points – at the end of the 2021/22 season, according to an analysis by those responsible, the joint paths surprisingly parted.

For Rose, the commitment in Leipzig is the fourth head coach station in the professional field and the third in the German Bundesliga. After the duel against BVB – and before the Gladbach game – Leipzig will face defending champions Real Madrid in the Champions League. Tedesco, who was released on Wednesday morning, only took over at RB last December, and in May the club celebrated the first title in club history under the 36-year-old by winning the cup. After a weaker start to the season than under predecessor Jesse Marsch in the previous year, Tedesco had to leave early – his contract ran until 2023.
