Officers robbed, hit and sprayed with pepper spray during undercover action

Two officers were robbed in December last year and sprayed with pepper spray during an undercover operation in Amsterdam. Two motorcycle cops were then hit. The court has now imposed a prison sentence of nine months on one of the suspects, three of which are suspended. Another suspect is sentenced to four months in prison, one of which is suspended.

After the officers came into contact with someone who offered a firearm for sale, they agreed on December 11, ostensibly to buy the gun. That would happen in the Eastern Docklands. While they were in a car on the JM van der Meylaan, two of the three suspects joined them in the car to complete the purchase, of course unaware that they were dealing with undercover agents.

Motorcycle cops hit

While handling the deal, one of the suspects, a 27-year-old man, suddenly grabbed a lot of money that the officers had taken. The other suspect in the car then sprayed pepper spray at the officers. The suspect who stole the money, about two thousand euros, ran to a car where the third suspect was sitting. This was also a 27-year-old man.

When he wanted to drive away, he saw two motorcycle cops. He drove back hard into the two officers, what the court sees as attempted aggravated assault. One of the motorcycle police officers said his leg got stuck between the car and his motorcycle. The officers gave several stop signs, but they were ignored by the suspect. It later turned out that the driver of the car did not have a driver’s license.

Alarm pistol and MDMA

The suspects were later arrested. A half-loaded alarm pistol was found in the car, but the court does not consider it proven that the suspect knew that the weapon was in the car. The weapon was, in fact, hidden from view, under the driver’s seat. A few days later, 306 MDMA tablets were found in the home of this suspect.

The suspect had previously been convicted of violent crimes and this new incident happened during his probationary period when he was on parole. The suspect was sentenced to nine months in prison, three of which were suspended. The man who took the money from the officers’ car is sentenced to four months in prison, one of which is suspended.
