The Polderbaan at Schiphol Airport was closed for a short time on Saturday afternoon after reports about an observed drone. After research, however, it appears that it is probably a balloon, a spokesperson for the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee told Anp news agency. No object has been observed on the radar.

Several aircraft pilots had reported the object, reports the NOS. It was then decided to lead the air traffic from the Polderbaan to the Zwanenburgbaan. There were also reports about a possible drone between the reports. The Marechaussee said earlier in the day to think of a drone.

The Marechaussee and the aviation police then searched for the alleged drone and its driver, but found nothing. That is why a balloon is now assumed. That too was not found.

The Polderbaan has been closed for 45 minutes. According to the Marechaussee, air traffic has not been in danger and the incident did not lead to major disturbances.

The incident attracted attention because drones appeared in the airspace earlier this week in Scandinavian countries. For example, air traffic at Copenhagen was hindered for hours on Monday after the observation of a drone and similar incidents took place in the Norwegian capital Oslo and in Aalborg (Denmark).

The European Commission suspects in any case in the incident in Norway involving Russia. That country denies having something to do with it.
