The fire brigade had to free an obese man from a house in Boxtel on Wednesday because he needed urgent care. The man could not go down the narrow staircase. The fire brigade eventually had to demolish a frame to bring the man down with an aerial work platform.

A local police officer paid the man a home visit and discovered that he was no longer responding adequately. After investigation it turned out that medical help was needed. Ambulance and fire brigade were called.

The man then stopped responding and had to get the right help as quickly as possible. “However, this turned out to be a greater challenge than usual: the man was obese and could not get to the ambulance on his own. Due to the narrow staircase, lifting was also not an option,” writes the Boxtel, Vught and Sint-Michielsgestel police.

The fire brigade had to destroy a frame so that the man could be safely removed from the house through the window with an aerial platform. “The man has been examined and is doing well according to the circumstances,” police said.
