… better and better!

With the 1975/76 season, another historical season of the Oberliga Berlin is available in the transfer market database. It was the second season after the dissolution of the five -track regional league, the forerunner of the 2nd Bundesliga. For the last time there were five relegated teams, since from next season there were only 16 teams in the third highest division. In a remote duel, promoted Hertha BSC II and SC Union 06 fought for the championship – the reserve of the Bundesliga club was three points behind.

Union then competed in the promotion games for the 2nd league, but failed there to Arminia Hannover and SC Herford. Afterwards, the 06 goalkeeper King Wolfgang Balzereit switched to the SCH, who had scored 41 goals that season. In East Westphalia, however, the attacker did not run smoothly, Balzereit only came to five missions and returned to Berlin a year later.

The personnel Heinz Gründel is also worth mentioning. The later four-time German international celebrated his senior debut with Hertha BSC and has now documented all his league inserts in the TM database. Further stations led him to Eintracht Frankfurt and the Hamburger SV, for which he ran 153 times in the Bundesliga. Another eight missions are added to Hertha BSC.
