The safety region sent an NL alert around 7:40 PM because of the smoke, which was extended by an hour shortly afterwards.
A demolition crane had to demolish the building so that the fire brigade could better reach the fire sources and extinguish the fire in a more targeted manner. According to the safety region, this could release additional smoke.
The first reports of the fire on the Vaart were received by the emergency services around 7:15 p.m. At 9:45 p.m., according to the spokesperson, the fire brigade was still ‘working hard’ to contain the fire. Because the fire threatened to spread to surrounding buildings, the fire was quickly scaled up from ‘major fire’ to ‘very major fire’ and ‘GRIP 1’.
In the event of a fire, this means that multiple emergency services, such as fire brigade, police and ambulance, are involved and structural cooperation is required.
Major damage to the property
The fire released a thick, black cloud of smoke, which, according to the spokesperson, blew across the industrial estate towards Spierdijk and Hoorn. Local residents were therefore advised to close windows and doors and switch off ventilation systems.
The safety region asks you to keep your distance and not to come to the Vaart, so that emergency services can do their work.
The building must be considered lost, the safety region reports.
