Number of traffic jams increased by 22 percent, these are the main bottlenecks

The severity of traffic jams – the length of the traffic jams multiplied by their duration – has increased by no less than 22 percent in our province in the past year. The ANWB reports this. Across the Netherlands, traffic jams increased by seventeen percent compared to 2022.

This year there were many more traffic jams than last year, not only during rush hours but also during the day. The severity of traffic jams during the morning rush hour increased nationally by ten percent and during the evening rush hour by eighteen percent. During the day, the number of traffic jams increased by 23 percent last year.

The figures show that the number of traffic jams varies greatly every day. Tuesday and Thursday remain by far the busiest commuting days, while traffic decreased further on Friday morning. On the other hand, the number of traffic jams on Friday during the day has grown significantly over the past year.

At number one in the national traffic jam top ten is – just like last year – the A27 from Utrecht towards Breda, especially the section between Lexmond and Werkendam. In second place is the A27 in the opposite direction, between Geertruidenberg and Gorinchem. In third place is the A58 from Breda to Eindhoven, especially the section between Moergestel and Oirschot. Followed by the A2 from Den Bosch towards Utrecht, between the Empel and Kerkdriel junction.
