The comeback of “Wetten, dass..?” stands. The twins Bill and Tom Kaulitz are actually bringing the ZDF classic back to the screens. “We’re going to ‘Bet that…?’ bring back,” said Tom in the joint podcast “Kaulitz Hills – Mustard from Hollywood”.
However, it is initially only about one edition of the long-running television hit, which is scheduled to be broadcast at the end of the year, as the 36-year-old brothers made clear.
Both described the task given to them as a dream and a huge honor that one could not say no to. On Wednesday morning, ZDF officially confirmed the Kaulitz brothers’ commitment.
At first it was just a joke
The broadcaster had previously fueled the rumors itself through various social media postings. A social media post from the station, for example, showed the brothers with ironic suggestions for several shows – the title “Wetten,dass..?” But it doesn’t happen (yet).
The always well-informed industry service dwdl.de then reported on corresponding plans. There was no denial from ZDF, but rather the statement that they had “big plans” for the two of them.
They had decided to have as much fun as possible, the two said in the podcast episode, which they started with the catchy intro of “Wetten,dass..?” opened. Bill spoke with a wink about “mega-big” stars who would be visiting. “It’s going to be Hollywood, guys,” he promised. They were really looking forward to it. “And of course we want to have the coolest bets.”
According to the brothers, the whole thing started with a joke from Tom three years ago. At the 2023 “1LIVE Crown” award ceremony, he said jokingly that the two would take over the ZDF broadcast. That was how they got involved, said Tom. Bill explained that they had slowly started talking to ZDF. There were various secret meetings with the broadcaster.
Show classics vs. reality stars
The Saturday evening show “Wetten,dass..?”, which started in 1981 is one of the classics and once greatest audience successes of Second German Television. In 2014 “Wetten,dass..?” set. In 2021 there was a celebrated comeback with presenter Thomas Gottschalk, who also hosted an annual edition in 2022 and 2023. Then it was over.
Bill and Tom Kaulitz can now draw on a lot of experience as entertainers. Her podcast “Kaulitz Hills – Senf aus Hollywood” was just as well received as the Netflix reality show “Kaulitz & Kaulitz”, which accompanies her in everyday life. For season two of the series, the brothers, who grew up in the Magdeburg area, received the German Television Award in the “Best Entertainment Reality” category.
