After President Donald Trump has been alive for months in the United States, his government is now also making a tough tone. The short video app will go off the grid in the USA if the Chinese government does not accept a takeover by US investor: Inside, Trump’s Minister of Commerce Lutnick said in the TV station CNBC.
Lutnick did not call a precise period of time, but said that decisions will be “very soon”. In June, Trump granted a further extension of the deadline until mid -September.
Always new mercy periods
Tiktok belongs to the Bytedance group based in China. According to a US law adopted last year, the app should have been sold by bytedance by January 19 – or switched off in the USA. But Trump admitted an additional period of 75 days to take office in January. After that, he granted two more ramps, although this is not intended by the law.
Lutnick confirmed that a change of owners remained the goal. It is not possible that an app installed on 100 million telephones in the USA is under Chinese control. “Americans: Inside, Americans will have: Innn will have the technology. Americans: Inside, the algorithm will control,” said Lutnick.
The heart of Tiktok
The TIKTOK algorithm – the software that decides which videos are next for the users: displayed inside – is a central component of the platform. The Chinese government already prohibited the export of such technology without authorities in Trump’s first term.
The US law stipulates that neither the Chinese government nor bytedance may have control over the algorithm if the app is to remain available in the USA.
Bytedance could stay with
