Yesterday afternoon the fire brigade was on for a forest fire in the Vloethemveld between Zedelgem and Jabbeke. There is a lot of damage because the location of the fire was difficult to reach. The fire brigade had to connect hundreds of meters of fire hoses to fight the fire.
“Our firefighters had a lot of work there yesterday,” says a fire brigade spokesperson. “We had to supply extinguishing water to get the fire under control.”
The Het Houtsche police zone strongly suspects that the fire has been lit. The public prosecutor has appointed a fire expert to investigate the cause of the fire. In addition, the Labo has also been on site for trace research. According to the first findings, it would be about intentional arson. The investigation into the precise circumstances is in full swing. At the moment no suspects have been arrested.
