The Berlin online fashion retailer Zalando SE now also offers worn children’s clothing. On Wednesday, the company announced the expansion of its second-hand offering to include this category in 14 European markets.
Veronika Moles, Commercial Director Kids at Zalando, explained the move: “Parents are among our most loyal customers and shop with us particularly regularly,” she explained in a statement. “They are looking for quality and don’t want to waste time. We help them free up space in their wardrobe and cover all of the family’s fashion needs in one place – whether new or pre-owned.”
According to Zalando, as part of the new service, customers can send in “lightly worn” children’s clothing and receive a voucher that is valid for the entire range. The items would then be “hand-checked” and offered again on the platform.
The company highlighted the convenient processes involved in the process: “Children’s clothing often only fits for a short time, but parents often don’t have the time in their everyday lives for private resale,” it said in a statement. “This is where the new offer comes in: Parents can exchange items purchased from Zalando directly without their own photos, lengthy price negotiations or shipping fees.”
The e-commerce specialist also referred to the positive development of the entire second-hand business. “Sales volume has recently doubled,” the company said. Up to 50 percent of all pre-owned items are sold within 24 hours of being posted online. For premium brands, the proportion is even 90 percent.
