Right winger Domen Novak with eight goals and goalkeeper Benjamin Buric with 16 saves were the outstanding players on the SG side, who dominated in attack and defense over 60 minutes.

Novak extends contract in Flensburg

However, there had been cheers in the arena before kick-off when Novak’s contract extension was announced. “I settled in quickly,” the 27-year-old national player from Slovenia told NDR: “I think both sides can be happy and I’m looking forward to many more years.”

Novak will stay with the Flensburgers until June 30, 2031, who, thanks to their subsequent success, will go into the break as the first pursuers of league leaders SC Magdeburg. Things won’t continue for the Schleswig-Holstein team until the beginning of February after the European Championships in Denmark, Sweden and Norway (January 15th to February 1st, 2026). The Pajovic team’s top game is on February 10th at VfL Gummersbach (8 p.m., in the NDR Livecenter).

Buric made ten saves in the first half

The SG needed less than three minutes to take a 4-0 lead against guests who were completely overwhelmed at the beginning. And the Pajovic team didn’t let up: Lasse Möller shot the ball from the backcourt into the net on the ten-minute mark for Flensburg’s tenth goal (10:3).

The Dane also scored the last goal of the first half for the hosts to make it 21:15. But SG goalkeeper Buric was the man of the first 30 minutes with ten saves – the score was 21:16.

SG now has a ten-goal lead

After the break, Pajovic’s protégés quickly made it clear: Novak made it 27:19 (40th) with two goals in quick succession. Seven minutes before the end, Möller made it 34:24 with another goal from the backcourt.

And even though the SG took it a little easier until the final siren – Pajovic exchanged cheerfully and, among other things, brought on Kevin Möller in goal for the outstanding Buric – in the end there was a clear success at the end of the year.
