Novak Djokovic after two tiebreaks still not done with tough Pool Hubert Hurkacz | Wimbledon

With videoNovak Djokovic is close to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon. The defending champion leads in his match against the Pool Hubert Hurkacz 2-0 in sets. Both times he took the set 8-6 via a tiebreak.

After that, the match was interrupted because after 11 p.m. local time it is no longer allowed to play at Wimbledon. Although the players formally still had about 25 minutes to go, the referees were of the opinion that no more set could be played in such a short time.

The curfew has been introduced to take into account the Wimbledon area. Last week this also happened in the second round cracker between Andy Murray and Stefanos Tsitsipas. The 36-year-old Scot then led 2-1, after which they also had to temporarily break off their match, but the 24-year-old Greek won the fourth and fifth set the next evening. Tsitsipas will face American Christopher Eubanks on Court 2 on Monday.

Three matches are scheduled at Center Court on Monday from 2.30 pm Dutch time. First, the Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia and defending champion Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan will compete against each other. Very likely Djokovic and Hurkacz will then return to the track to finish their match in the fourth round.

Then Ons Jabeur and Petra Kvitova face each other, with the duel between the Spanish number one Carlos Alcaraz (20) and the Italian Matteo Berrettini (27) closing Monday at Center Court.

Rublev and Sinner

Andrey Rublev also qualified for the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. The seventh-seeded Russian won against Aleksandr Boeblik in the fourth round. Rublev needed five sets against the Kazakh: 7-5, 6-3, 6-7 (6). 6-7 (5), 6-4.

The 25-year-old Rublev joined the last eight on the grass of London for the first time. Rublev did not lose his service game once against Boeblik, but he did surrender two sets via the tiebreak.

Last season he did not participate in Wimbledon, because the Russians were not welcome there because of the war with Ukraine. In the next round of Wimbledon, the Russian will face the winner of the match between Novak Djokovic and Hubert Hurkacz.

Jannik Sinner also reached the quarter finals. The Italian, number 8 on the seeding list, was too strong for the Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan in three sets, 7-6 (4) 6-4 6-3. Sinner now has the chance to go beyond the last eight for the first time at a grand slam.
