The province of Drenthe and Water Board Vechtstroom warn of a high concentration of blue-green algae in the large Rietplas water sports beach in Emmen. There are warning signs at the water.
Blue algae can cause a lot of physical discomfort. For example, they cause eyes and skin irritation and headache and stomach and intestinal complaints frequent symptoms.
It is not the first time that the blue -green algae causes problems with the large Rietplas. Last year, the lake in the summer months was not safe enough for two weeks to swim in and also in the years before, regular warning signs for blue -green algae were seen at the lake.
