Not to FC Bayern! Schweinsteiger surprises with Alonso forecast

Coach Xabi Alonso is doing such a good job at Bayer Leverkusen that numerous top European clubs are said to have taken notice of him – including FC Bayern. However, former Munich player Bastian Schweinsteiger sees the Spaniard elsewhere in the future.

On Tuesday evening, the Werkself presented the next calling card on behalf of their coach: Bayer Leverkusen celebrated Alonso football par excellence in the spectacular 3-2 win in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup against VfB Stuttgart.

The former world-class midfielder and his protégés are still unbeaten in all competitions this season. It’s hardly surprising that several top clubs are vying for the 42-year-old’s services.

Alonso has been traded in recent months, particularly with his former employers Real Madrid, FC Bayern and FC Liverpool. However, only the Reds have an open position next summer.

As part of the cup game, “ARD” expert and Bayern veteran Bastian Schweinsteiger indicated that he would most likely see his former teammate in England soon.

“I know Xabi and I think his big dream is to coach Liverpool. And I can imagine that he could go to Liverpool this summer,” Schweinsteiger revealed.

Liverpool looking for a coach, FC Bayern not

At Liverpool FC, team manager Jürgen Klopp has announced his retirement after the season, and the search for a suitable successor is also in full swing.

Thomas Tuchel, however, is tied to Munich until 2025. Despite all the criticism of FC Bayern’s performance and the coach’s sometimes questionable external image, a separation is currently not up for debate.

Xabi Alonso took up the job at Leverkusen in November 2022 and the team has developed fantastically since then. His current working paper at Bayer is valid until 2026, so a hefty transfer fee is likely.
