NOS commentator Arno Vermeulen actually wanted to become a football caretaker

As a young boy, Arno Vermeulen did not want to become a football player or commentator, but rather a football caregiver. He reveals this in De Aftrap, where the NOS football chief is a guest tonight. Completely different from the position of general manager at AZ. At the beginning of this week, the Alkmaar native submitted an open application after it became known that Robert Eenhoorn will be leaving there this summer.

The 63-year-old Vermeulen confirms again in De Aftrap that the job at AZ is for him ‘triggers‘. Vermeulen: “I have been in journalism for a long time. There is nothing wrong with doing that for a few more years. But to do something different, where you think: hey, could I do that? I think that is really good for someone.”

“If they asked me to become director of NEC, I would not be interested in it”

“If they asked me to become director of NEC, I would have no interest in it. I am Alkmaarder by birth. That club is in my heart.”

Andries Jonker, national coach of the Orange Lionesses, is not interested in a position off the field. “I want to continue working with my team. I will finish this and then we will see what happens.”

“I have confidence in Wilco van Schaik and Jan-Willem van Dop. Perhaps they have the ambition to work a step higher”

National coach Andries Jonker

The Amsterdammer hopes to qualify with the women’s team for the Olympic Games in Paris next week. His contract with the KNVB runs until the European Championships in the summer of 2025.

Jonker does have a suggestion for the director position at AZ. “I have confidence in Wilco van Schaik from NEC and Jan-Willem van Dop who does good work at Go Ahead. These types of men work in the middle bracket and may have the ambition to work a step higher.”

Crate Trap

Of course, the regular parts of De Aftrap should not be missing. Jonker is standing at the board of our own team of FC De Aftrap, while the girls team of Royal HFC under 17 years tries to score a nice score in Kratje Trap in dogging weather. Of course it is possible to register your team to participate. Then send an email to [email protected].
