In addition to his prison sentence, the suspect received an indefinite duration to practice his profession as a doctor and was sentenced to pay a financial compensation to his victims.

A total of 94 women took the floor to testify that Arne BYE had subjected them to touches, digital penetration or penetration with objects during gynecological examinations, without being a medical justification. Those actions are all considered rape according to Norwegian law. The doctor, who filmed his actions, was acquitted on nine points of the indictment, which had more than 160 points.

“This is a very serious matter and these are absolutely unacceptable acts,” said Judge Espen Haug, quoted by the newspaper address seavisen, when he expressed the verdict in the court of Trøndelag.

Argued for lighter punishment

The punishment corresponded to the punishment demanded by the prosecutor. The defense of Arne Bye, who admitted only about twenty rapes, had argued for a lighter punishment between 17 and 18 years in prison.

The doctor has not yet decided whether or not he will appeal against his conviction.
