After the Norwegian team’s ski jumping equipment was stolen at the World Cup in Willingen, the suspected thief contacted Jan-Erik Aalbu by phone and expressed remorse. The man apologized and was “very afraid of the consequences,” Norway’s sports director reported to the newspaper “Nettavisen.” “This was clearly a repentant sinner.”
Aalbu referred to video footage of the incident that the police have. “So I don’t know what happened, whether they got cold feet or something,” said the 62-year-old.
The crime occurred on the night from Saturday to Sunday. Unknown people stole ski jumping helmets, jackets, hats, gloves and glasses from the Norwegian team’s storage room in Upland, Hesse. “This is pretty expensive equipment,” Aalbu clarified. “The helmets are specially designed for each athlete.” He demanded that the thief return the stolen items.
