Nordnet, an investment firm, says it will completely abandon username and passwords as a login method. In the future, the service will always be logged in with two -step authentication.

“We have begun to disable usernames and passwords as login methods from customers who already have two -step authentication,” Nordnet says in a customer bulletin.

According to Nordnet, the change is related to improving safety and comfort.

This will be the login in the future

The computer is logged in to Nordnet by scanning the QR code with the Nordnet smartphone application. The mobile app, in turn, is logged in with fingerprint, face recognition, or six-digit PIN.

Nordnet customers who do not have a smartphone can log in to the service using a mobile certificate ordered from their own operator. The mobile certificate is free for Telia’s customers, but Elisa and DNA charge a couple of euros a month.

With a username and password, it is possible to log in to Nordnet until mid -April. Two -step authentication will be introduced to all customers by 15 April.

Technical disorder

Nordnet rose to the headlines last week, when some of the clients logged in on Tuesday afternoon due to a technical disorder ended up in the wrong person’s account, able to see the content of the portfolios and even make purchases and sales.

On Wednesday, Nordnet told Kauppalehti that one Finnish customer’s portfolio had been unauthorized for a share sale of approximately EUR 7,400.
