Breaks for the German ski jumper at the World Championships in Trondheim: The DSV team missed the medals in the mixed competition. Gold went confidently on Norway.
Katharina Schmid, Philipp Raimund and the Vice World Champion Selina Freitag and Andreas Wellinger only jumped in fourth place on Wednesday (05.03.2025) at the Mixed premiere from the Großchanze.
Norway wins confidently
Norway, on the other hand, provided the next lavish party at the World Cup home game. Anna Odine Ström, Eirin Maria Kvandal, Johann Andre Forfang and world champion Marius Lindvik dominated the competition and won with a huge lead (61.1 points) before Slovenia and Austria.
The DSV quartet, on the other hand, missed a special ski jump record: five times in a row, the World Cup title last went to Germany, six gold in a row was not yet available for a nation in a ski jumping competition. It stays in Trondheim after the competitions.
Horngacher surprises with nomination
National coach Stefan Horngacher surprisingly gave Raimund preferred to Karl Geiger, who had convinced the normal hill with fourth place. At 125 meters in the first round, the Raimund was able to justify its nomination and claim third place. Previously, Schmid, who continues to search for its best form, had presented with a good sentence to 111.5 meters. At this point, it was already clear that it would be very difficult with gold that day.
DSV eagle not in the best form
Thanks to Ström and world champion Lindvik, Norway had put the measuring slat up early and worked out more than 35 points ahead in second place. Friday also delivered properly (123 meters), but could not make up any ground in the fight for second place after world champion Nika Prevc (133.5) had once again surpassed all the competition.
Because Wellinger was also the last jumper in the first round of 125.5 meters, the German quartet was only in fourth place at the break – the equivalent of seven meters behind the third -placed Austrians. The Norwegians at the top had already rushed to 67 points and had also developed a comfortable upholstered in Slovenia.
Raimunds goes to attack
The catch -up in the second round began slow, but then picked up speed. Schmid initially had to accept a damper after 109 meters and lost the floor to the podium further. With a famous set at 132 meters, Ström had made a preliminary decision in the fight for gold.
Raimund finally brought back hope – and how: After a great set to 138 meters including telemark, the Oberstdorfer in the valley screamed out his joy. Slovenia was able to counter immediately by Domen Prevc, but the gap to third place and Austria melted. “That was damn a lot of confidence. I knew that I had to tackle it determined“, said Raimund in the Sportschau interview.
Record remains unrolled
It was on Friday and Wellinger to continue to close the gap in the final. However, the currently best German ski jumper struggled and did not get over 120.5 meters. Wellinger had to catch up ten points (5.5 meters) in the fight for bronze against Hörl, but stretched out in vain. With a strong 139 meters, the Vice World Champion was able to hold up the pressure, but his Austrian competitor also secured the medal with 139 meters.
