Nordic Combined Ruka: Live Ticker – HS 142, 5km

11:24

Marco Heinis (FRA)

Things are completely different with Marco Heinis! The Frenchman delivers a top jump, is the first athlete to really get going and can use the large facility for a nice jump of 131.5 meters. There’s no question that he’s clearly taking the lead in the classification for the time being, and he probably won’t give it up anytime soon.

11:23

Yuya Yamamoto (JPN)

Yuya Yamamoto will now show what’s really in here, because for him it went really far in the previous jumps here. But now he has problems too. Yamamoto seems to want too much at the table and with 119.5 meters he can only just get ahead of Rettenegger. We have already seen significantly more jumps from him in Ruka.

11:22

David Mach (GER)

David Mach has had his problems at the Ruka facility so far. Can he shed it in competition? At least things are going better than before in the rehearsal, even if the last aggressiveness seems to be missing at the table. 114 meters bring him second place.

11:21

Aaron Kostner (ITA)

Aaron Kostner could now use an upwind phase, but the technique doesn’t quite work and after 107 meters it will already be far behind Rettenegger with the deductions for the wind and low grades for posture.

11:20

Thomas Rettenegger (AUT)

What is possible for the first Austrian? In the test competition Thomas Rettenegger was able to make a good impression last week, but there were also a few top athletes missing. Nevertheless, he now clearly skips the previous distances. At 119 meters it is at least close to the K point.

11:19

Domenico Mariotti (ITA)

Domenico Mariotti is to be introduced to the world elite in Italy. The conditions are not bad for the young man, but the jump comes to an end early for him too. 93.5 meters, more are not possible with him.

11:18

Waltteri Karhumaa (FIN)

Waltteri Karhumaa is the last athlete from the national group, but he too cannot crack the 100 meters in Ruka. 96.5 meters are credited to him.

11:18

Leevi Mutru (FIN)

What can Leevi Mutru deliver in the downwind conditions? Not much either. With 98 meters he also falls well short of his expectations.

11:17

Jesse Paakkonen (FIN)

Jesse Pääkkönen is the next athlete to start and immediately gets caught in a worse phase with a lot of tailwind. So there are 13.3 plus points for his 87.5 meters in one fell swoop.

11:15

Rasmus Ähtävä (FIN)

It is Rasmus Ähtävä from the Finnish team who opens the season for the Nordic Combined. For the athlete, who is still inexperienced in the World Cup, it will be 99 meters. The first further jump is expected from Yuya Yamamoto, who will be in line with start number ninth. The conditions are relatively stable and so nothing should stand in the way of a fair jump.

Riiber wins sample

Before the competition, there was already a rehearsal over the hill. By far the best jump was delivered by Jarl Magnus Riiber, who is known for the fact that the facility in Ruka suits him. With 141 meters and 103.5 points, he finished ahead of Mario Seidl (95.4 points) and Julian Schmid (86.2 points) from the DSV team.

11:04

ÖSV combined athletes in the far north for a long time

The Austrians have already been in the far north for a few days and last weekend took part in a test competition together with the Finns, French and Japanese, and they were already able to show good performances. For the ÖSV, Thomas Rettenegger, Lukas Greiderer, Martin Fritz, Mario Seidl and Philipp Orter will also start in Ruka Johannes Lamparter, Stefan Rettenegger and Rehrl.

11:01

DSV with ten athletes at the start

The German Ski Association travels to Ruka with ten athletes at the start of the season. In addition to the veterans Manuel Faißt, Eric Frenzel, Vinzenz Geiger, Fabian Rießle, Johannes Rydzek, Julian Schmid and Terence Weber, Jakob Lange, David Mach and Tristan Sommerfeldt will also be involved. They had fought for personal starting rights through their performances in the Continental Cup and at the Junior World Championships last year.

10:51

World Cup as season highlight

A total of 25 World Cups are on the program for men in Nordic Combined. Most of it is completed in the well-known Gundersen format, but the mass start is also becoming more and more popular. However, the traditional team competition with four athletes is not on the calendar at all. Instead, a mixed competition and a team sprint will be completed. The highlight of the season is the Nordic World Ski Championships in Planica at the beginning of March 2023.

10:45

Everyone chases Riiber

Also this year all athletes will try again to dethrone Jarl Magnus Riiber. The Norwegian has won the overall World Cup for the past four years and appears to be heading to Ruka in good shape. On the hill Riiber got involved again and yesterday in the provisional round it was enough for second place behind the Austrian Mario Seidl.

10:39

Mini tour to start

The Nordic combined athletes start the 2022 season with a mini tour. In Ruka, three individual competitions are on the program in three days. On Friday it’s the short distance with one jump and five kilometers on the cross-country ski run. On Saturday there is a Gundersen in the usual cross-country skiing distance over ten kilometers. The conclusion on Sunday is finally the mass start, in which first ten kilometers are run before the decision on the hill is made. The winner of the mini tour is the jumper who has the most World Cup points at the end. There is no qualification, which means that all athletes can start on all three days.
