Julian Schmid takes to the track this afternoon at 12.40 p.m. eight seconds ahead of Johannes Rydzek. The other Germans are already a little behind with Richard Stenzel (19th, +0:50 mins) and Simon Mach (21st, +0:54). For them it’s about finishing in the top 15. The same applies to David Mach from 23rd place (+1:02) and Vinzenz Geiger (25th, +1:09). The other Germans are in 33rd and 42nd place with Wendelin Thannheimer (+1:24) and Manuel Faißt (+1:44).

Schmid wins the PCR ahead of Rydzek and Rettenegger

Julian Schmid is once again in a good position today. The Oberstdorfer won the first provisional competition jump on Thursday ahead of his compatriot Johannes Rydzek and the Austrian Thomas Rettenegger.

Cancellation of jumping – first PCR will be used

Even at 9.40 a.m. German time it is too windy at the Tehvandi ski jump and so the jury made the decision not to do any jumping today and to use the first PCR on Thursday. It is not yet known whether the women’s competition (10.45 a.m.) will be possible.

09:33

Start postponed to 9:40 a.m

The jury still hasn’t made a real decision and postpones the start again by ten minutes. The first athletes who are already on the take-off tower are allowed to return to the clean-up room.

09:27

No decision yet – we have to wait

The jury first tries to carry out the jumping. But the motto is to wait and see and if there is a window with less wind, you should jump.

09:22

It’s still too windy at the moment

It is currently still too windy at the Tehvandi ski jump. The jury meets at 9.30 a.m. German time and discusses whether jumping is possible today.

09:15

The conditions

It snowed a lot in Estonia on Saturday night. There was ten to 30 centimeters of fresh snow overnight. The helpers are trying to keep the path clear with leaf blowers, but in addition to the snow, it is windy again in Otepää today. Up to eight meters per second can be reached at the ski jump. It is not known whether it is actually possible to jump today. Otherwise, the first PCR on Thursday will probably be used as the basis for the run.

Eight Austrians registered

As on Friday, eight Austrians are registered for the second day of the competition in Otepää. In addition to the man in yellow, Johannes Lamparter (start number 58), who was on the podium again yesterday, the best jumper in the field, Thomas Rettenegger (56), is also at the start again. Rettenegger narrowly missed the podium yesterday. Also there are Franz-Josef Rehrl (52), Stefan Rettenegger (51), Martin Fritz (48), Paul Walcher (42), Lukas Greiderer (32) and Fabio Obermeyr (26).

09:05

Eight DSV athletes at the start

As on Friday, eight German combined athletes will be at the start again on Saturday. Since Manuel Faißt only competed in his first race of the season yesterday, he is the first DSV athlete to go off the beam with number 16. This is followed by Simon Mach (37), Richard Stenzel (40), David Mach (45) and Vinzenz Geiger (47). Also there are Johannes Rydzek (49), who narrowly missed the podium in fifth place yesterday, as well as Wendelin Thannheimer (53) and yesterday’s winner, Julian Schmid (57).

Watabe could break the mark

On Friday, the Japanese Akito Watabe somewhat unnoticed drew level with the Austrian Willi Denifl. Both combined athletes have now completed 295 World Cups in their careers, more than anyone else. The overall World Cup winner of the 2017/18 season could now become the athlete with the most World Cup starts in Nordic combined with 296 World Cup starts.

08:55

First win of the season for Schmid

Yesterday, Friday, Julian Schmid celebrated his first win of the season in the mass start. The Oberstdorfer took fourth place after the 10 km run. After the jump was canceled due to too much wind, the second provisional competition jump on Thursday was counted and the 26-year-old achieved third place.
