The verbal exchange of blows in the Nordic combination goes into the next round: After the sensational frontal attack by the Norwegian world champion Jarl Magnus Riiber on Germany, Julian Schmid countered sharply.
“What he says doesn’t interest me at all. It doesn’t matter to me what he says. I do my stuff, we do our stuff. What he is shouting around, I am not interested in it,” replied Julian Schmid unusually clearly on Friday.
Jarl Magnus Riiber had referred to a protest from the German Ski Association at the individual last Saturday.
“I am really bad and I get a lot of adrenaline when I think about how to behave so badly. This is disgusting,” the Norwegian was quoted by the daily “Dagbladet”.
Riiber had won the competition in front of his compatriot Jens Luuras Ausbro and Vinzenz Geiger from Germany. The DSV then took a protest because frequentebro is said to have left the route with a ski.
National coach Frenzel can understand decision
However, the world association FIS refrained from a disqualification of frequent broses. Riiber still struggled with the campaign of the Germans, who had received silver for violin and bronze for Julian Schmid in a successful protest.
“Something like that is simply unsportsmanlike,” raged Riiber. Freifebro also expressed his incomprehension: “You just tried it to get another medal. You are welcome to try that, but we Norwegians would not have done it that way,” emphasized the 24-year-old. The German team ultimately apologized to him.
Germany’s national coach Eric Frenzel had already admitted half an hour after the end of the race that he could understand the decision after viewing the video images.
Horst Hüttel justified the protest compared to the “SID”. In principle, he could understand Riiber’s displeasure, explained the DSV sports director, “but ultimately we have to work for our athletes”.
