Two men were arrested yesterday afternoon at Stationsplein in Groningen for forbidden possession of weapons. One of them is a 22-year-old man from the municipality of Noordenveld. The police came into action after a tip came in about a possible firearm.
Agents found the man from Noordenveld at the station, in the company of two others. The three were kept under shot and then checked. Two of them were found a firearm and a knife.
The police finally arrested three people. One of them was released after interrogation and is considered a witness. The other two suspects, including the man from Noordenveld, are still detained and are questioned about their involvement in the possession of weapons.
The firearm and the knife have been seized. The police are investigating who the owner of the firearm and what the plans were of the suspects. It is also examined whether there are earlier incidents where the weapon is possible.
As long as the investigation is ongoing, the two suspects are stuck.
