Noordenveld wants to press ahead on the Oude Velddijk in Peize, but local residents do not like the plan

There is not yet a concrete plan for housing at Oude Velddijk 26 in Peize, but local residents once again shared their concerns with the municipality of Noordenveld tonight.

They did this at a walk-in meeting in restaurant Bij Boon, which also attracts a lot of enthusiastic seniors. They hope to get a spot on the Oude Velddijk, where homes for the elderly are to be built.

Even before the turn of the century, the municipality of Noordenveld bought the piece of land on the Oude Velddijk, hoping to develop housing there one day. That building seems to be getting closer, but there is no concrete plan yet. In the spring of 2021, the Noordenveld city council did agree to a motion asking the council to build in the style of a ‘naoberhof’.

Daniël Daalmeijer lives directly on the piece of land that has to be built on and is against the guidelines set by the municipality for housing. He is not alone in this, as many local residents are against it. “We think that building is too intensive and too high,” says Daalmeijer. In addition, there are concerns about road safety on the Oude Velddijk and local residents think they will suffer from wet feet because the water management is not in order.

Local residents also prefer a small-scale form of housing, but the municipality of Noordenveld offers the possibility for a maximum of 25 homes. It should be noted that the municipality itself thinks that a maximum of 16 homes can be built. “But we offer interested parties leeway,” says project leader Mark Smit.

Daalmeijer says he is unpleasantly surprised that space would be offered for 25 homes. “A lower number was always mentioned and now we suddenly read that back in that plan. Nothing has been communicated about that, it has been secretly put in.”

The fear of wet feet, refutes project leader Smit. “We have had an engineering firm do research into it and they are working on improving the water management.”

The responsible alderman Jos Darwinkel (Municipal Interests) says that the argument that ‘too high’ is being built is not applicable. Although houses in the area are around 6 meters high, the zoning plan for the area states that building heights of up to 9 meters are allowed. “That applies to everyone, so why shouldn’t it apply to new buildings?”
